I can't wait for her to be released, and to be met on the tarmac by our new PM Boris Johnson. What a coup de theatre that would be.

If that's the deal I'm thinking of, the employees one of the main contractors to build those tanks had to be quietly "bought off" to allow the contract to be met.

The unions of the time negotiated a fucking huge headline avoiding company funded pension contribution to get it across the line; many of the employees were - and still are - completely unaware of this.

I know one person, who on reaching retirement age , was rather pleasantly surprised, as it virtually doubled his expected monthly income, even though he wasn't at the company for very long.

Pwoper 10.10.

I agree, the whole circumstance and subsequent high profile of this case supports what you've posted - why would anyone on the radar of Iran for political reasons, visit the country whilst in the employ of Reuters? Well/over educated people tend to lack the basic necessities: self-awareness and common sense....

Iran and other countries arrest and conviction on jumped up charges, citizens of certain nationality to use as bargaining chips at a later date, it's an established political tactic.

I'm not suggesting anything you've written is wrong by the way, it could well be the case.

Re: The bird in the Iranian jail
I’d say that the government and even Corbyn haven’t been too interested in this is because

1) the Uk state broadcaster were running a government sponsored project to train journalists in the Middle East
2) they sent across people to do the training
3) the training was done with the view to undermine the Iranian authority (Corbyn s pals)
4) this lady did this and wasn’t just an admin person as being presented
5) years later she thought the dust had settled and got clobbered

Nobody wants to admit this happened and still happens and the husband might not even be fully aware.

Here we are.

Moral of the story. Don’t get involved in anything organised by secret services as you are just an asset until you have no worth.

Or the Iranian government just wanted to arrest a random lady for no reason or with no evidence to start an international incident. Because that would be worth the effort.

Who knows?

Our government never seemed to have tried too hard to help, and even Steptoe hasn't been on a march about her, so I'm guessing that it's not exactly clear cut.

All this politics is all well and good, but the key question is... would you though?

Re: The bird in the Iranian jail
Iran bought some Chieftain tanks in 1976 and paid for them.
They weren’t sent as Iran came under embargo and the UK haven’t given the money back. Think it’s over £400m with interest now.
Iran want their money so are holding this woman.

Re: The bird in the Iranian jail
Iran is not a cunt of a country, but it does have an administration that cannot control it's own citizens. It needs to change INTERNALLY, which means the west can just fuck off and find somewhere else to sell it's Big Macs, KFC and US dollars.

Not really a laughing matter is it !! Iran is a cnut of a country and only Allah merciful and omnipotent Cnut knows what this family are going through let's hope they for what ever reason let her go home soon.

Re: The bird in the Iranian jail
Maybe the Iranians and the Uk government are fully aware of why she is there?

Problem with spies is that nobody wants to admit they have them.

She'd be home here with her daughter and husband if it had not been for the incompetent clown that the tories are going to make our Prime Minister.
